Heat wave triggers first hospital cases

by isleofman.com 19th July 2013

Health bosses in the Island are urging those with serious medical conditions to be extremely careful during the current heat wave.
The advice comes after a number of people with pre existing conditions were taken to Noble's hospital after becoming ill.
Some are thought to be suffering kidney damage as a result of dehydration.
The public health department has issued advice, aimed especially at the elderly and vulnerable.
You should stay cool, avoid direct exposure to the sun between 11am and 3pm, and drink plenty of fluids - avoiding alcohol, tea and coffee as they worsen dehydration.
If you're on medication, do not stop but if you notice your symptoms worsen, seek medical advice.
In England it's estimated more than 700 people have died in the long, hot spell.
