Charity the winner at the Isle of Man’s Standard Bank Super Cup 2013

by isleofman.com 24th July 2013

Charity was definitely the winner at the Standard Bank Mixed 7-a-side Football Tournament – the Standard Bank Super Cup.

The fun tournament took place on Saturday 13th July at The Bowl with 16 teams taking part in the sunshine. The final was between AXA and Nil Boyz, with AXA taking the trophy after a penalty shoot-out to win 2-1.

?1,571 was raised on the day and that has been split between two charities: Manx Cancer Help and the Mifumi School project. This year Manx Cancer Help celebrate 30 years of supporting islanders with cancer, their families and carers. Standard Bank is also celebrating its African roots by sponsoring the Mifumi Schools project, a charity which enables over 700 boys and girls to receive an education in a remote area of Uganda.

Ian Hamilton, Head of Corporate and Business Banking in the Isle of Man, said, ‘The day was everything it should have been, a fun event for those taking part, and a chance for us to do something to help the community. Thank you to everyone who participated, whether organising, playing or spectating. However, we will need to take a serious look at our Standard Bank football training schedule for next year after both of our teams failed to make it past group stage one. I understand Sir Alex Ferguson is currently available so if anyone has his telephone number....
