The next event at Albany is an open senior tournament. Sponsored by Chrystals Estate Agents.
This is OPEN to all players on the Island and the older juniors are encouraged to enter the Men’s/Women’s singles as these will be run on a ratings format. This creates small tournaments within the main event so that players of similar ability (rating) play each other before the winners also progress to the Main Draw, but still play their own group finals.
Singles prize money is winner ?40 and r/up ?25 plus a medal. Prizes for the doubles will be indoor court vouchers – anyone from another club winning a voucher will be eligible to use the indoor court on the one occasion.
What an Island Games for Manx tennis players - with Billy Harris(Albany) really showing the seeding committee that they got it wrong! Seeded 7 in the Men’s singles, he won Gold beating other seeds on the way. He partnered Laura Feely (Albany) in the all Manx Mixed final doubles beating Marc Chinn (Albany) and Karen Faragher (Kensington Road T C). Laura did very well taking silver in the Women’s singles.
Silver went to Karen (Faragher/ Katie Tinkler (Castletown) and the team took bronze in the women’s team event. Congratulations to ALL the players (Albany or not) and the team Manager Daphne Snidal on a job well done. This will sure give Island tennis a real boost.
On Tuesday the club entertained 15 children from Chernobyl (Belarus) for tennis coaching/playing followed by lunch. Club Coach, Ian Watson with help from Margaret Drake, Jan Watson, Adam Pyatt-Coppell, Sean Drewry, Sasha Thomas, and Callum Watson carried out the coaching sessions which all the children enjoyed. Fortunately the club’s indoor court came into it’s own and the planned programme went ahead regardless of the rain. The Friday Morning Ladies with Jan Gaskill and Fran Shacklock in charge, provided an excellent lunch for players, interpreters and helpers. Before they left the children were given Isle of Man baseball caps plus an ice lolly. The club has already offered to host next year’s visitors. The children left, as usual with a very loud “Thank you very much”.
The club has Summer Camps running throughout the school holidays. Children can attend all of them or just one a week or whatever suits their family best. Contact Ian Watson 496293 or e-mail

Thanks to the Club Chairman, Stuart Colligon, a lot of the club’s news/events is now on Facebook. This is an added outlet for up-dates on news from the Ballaughton Meadows club.
