Bardney's Ivan Lintin enjoyed a superb meeting at Oliver's Mount, Scarborough last weekend, smashing the lap record on his way to winning both of the Supertwins races on the Tigcraft Kawasaki and also taking a good podium in the second Supersport race on the Taylor Lindsey Kawasaki.
With good, dry conditions around the 2.43-mile road circuit, Ivan got his weekend underway in perfect style in the opening Supertwins race with victory over Dean Harrison after a close battle early on. He gradually opened up an advantage and lapping some 2.5s inside the old lap record, he took an eventual four-second win. Immediately after came the first Supersport race and , lapping quicker than he'd ever gone before on the 600cc machine, he took a strong fifth place.
Sunday saw Ivan post even better results and first up was the second Supersport 600cc race where with the Taylor Lindsey Kawasaki working perfectly, and aided by a new personal best lap of 1m48.085s, he took an excellent third place, just half a second behind fellow Kawasaki rider Jamie Hamilton. He saved the best until last though and although he found himself back in sixth on the opening lap of the second Supertwins race, he worked his way through the pack and took the lead from Harrison with two laps to go. With a stunning new lap record of 1m50.048s, Ivan came home two seconds clear to complete a brilliant weekend.
Earlier in the month, Ivan also took part in the Southern 100 and although machine trouble kept him out of all of the results, he started and ended the week well, with a close second to Harrison in the second Supertwins race the highlight, the duo again breaking the lap record. He also rode the Taylor Lindsey Kawasaki in the opening Senior race where he was the fourth highest placed Supersport machine before firstly handling and then mapping issues prevented him from building on that later in the week.
Speaking later, a delighted Ivan said; "It's been a good few weeks and I'm over the moon with the results at Scarborough especially. The bikes were working really well and to lap comfortably quicker than ever before in both classes was really pleasing. It's taken a while to get there but the Tigcraft is flying now, certainly as quick as anything else out there, and both races went well. It's the first time I've had a pitboard at Scarborough and it was a definite help so I just concentrated hard, kept the head down and focused on hitting all my apexes. I managed to overhaul Dean both times along the back straight and to end up with the lap record, some three seconds quicker than the old mark, was an added bonus. I also enjoyed a good battle with Dean at the Southern and although I led for most of the race, he managed to find a way round the outside of me at the final corner and pipped me to the line!"
"The 600cc races at Scarborough also went well and although I got stuck in fifth in the first race without being able to climb any higher, third place on Sunday was a bit more like it. We had a few handling and mapping issues with the Taylor Lindsey Kawasaki at the Southern 100 so we swapped engines when we got back and got it set up well on the dyno. The engine's got good bottom end grunt, which is just what you need for Scarborough and I've taken two seconds off my personal best this year and the lap on Sunday was only 1.3s off the class lap record, which shows how far we've progressed. A big thank you to everyone that's helped and supported me at the two events and special thanks to Taylor Lindsey Racing who've purchased the new Honda and I'm really looking forward to getting out on the bike at the Ulster."
The International Ulster Grand Prix will be Ivan's next meeting with the famous Dundrod circuit hosting the races on August 14-17.
