Bradford bowls over opposition to win Ramsey Town Cup

by isleofman.com 25th July 2013

A total of 36 bowlers from clubs from across the Island contested the Ramsey Town Cup at a sunny Mooragh Park on Saturday July 13th. The competition, organised by North Ramsey Bowling Club, saw some excellent bowling on a good, fast running green.

The quarter-finals were all closely contested with Syd Bolton (South Ramsey) overcoming Brian Colquitt (North Ramsey), Paul Leece (Noble’s Mixed) edging past last year’s winner Tony Smart (North Ramsey), David Bradford (Onchan) beating Peter Collister (South Ramsey) and Geoff Porter (North Ramsey) defeating the current Island champion, Glyn Hargraves (Onchan).

In the semi-finals Paul Leece just prevailed in a tense battle with Syd Bolton while David Bradford proved a step too far for Geoff Porter. This left David and Paul to contest the final and it was David who prevailed, upping his game impressively to win by 21 – 9.
The prizes were presented on behalf of Ramsey Town Commissioners by Dr Alex Allinson, lead member for parks and leisure.
