The Castletown Festival is this weekend and is set to have good weather to complement the event.
There are a variety of events over the Saturday and Sunday and a great family weekend is anticipated. The policing of the majority of the event throughout the daytime will be very low key with a focus upon community engagement. Later on during the Saturday sees events localised to Castletown Square such as the Confetti Carnival, a tribute act and the firework display where the policing will be targeting drunkenness, antisocial behaviour and any offences of violence.
To support this there will be extra officers on duty for the event and the SNPT have enlisted the assistance of plain clothes officers and the Dog Section whilst monitoring the event throughout its busier period with facilities to record any incidents as they happen by way of local and Police CCTV.
The Festival Committee and the Police have also liaised with the licensing trade closely to promote a sensible approach to alcohol sales and consumption.
Sergeant Paul Kemp said,
“We have worked hard with the organisers to ensure that the extra arrangements will promote a carnival atmosphere whilst maximising public safety. Two of our biggest concerns last year were the sheer volume of young people who were found to be intoxicated and a minority of adults who were drunk, aggressive and violent. Our approach, as always will be visible, open and friendly but anybody who compromises the enjoyment or safety of others will end up spending time with us with a strong potential for a visit to court.
Any young people found to be where they shouldn’t be, drunk and/or in possession of alcohol will have arrangements made to be collected from Castletown by parents who are asked to be responsible and know what your kids are doing.
We hope that the carnival is success and that everybody has a great weekend.”
