The first winner of the Duke Road Race Rankings Series in 2002, Ian Lougher has been honoured by the organisers of the Ulster Grand Prix, the Dundrod & District Motor Cycle Club at their Press Evening held at the Lisburn Island Centre.
Ian is presently enjoying his swan-song season of road racing bringing to an end some 30 years of racing 'between the hedges' went on to take the prestigious Duke Rankings title again in 2005 and 2006 has previosly had his racing success's at the world-famous Dundrod Course recognised, with the Budore section of the 7.401-mile circuit renamed Lougher's.
Three milestones are celebrated at Dundrod this year, 2013 marks the 90th anniversary of the Ulster Grand Prix (1923); it is the 60th anniversary of the 'Ulster' being held on the Dundrod Course (1953) and it is the 50th anniversary of the Ulster Grand Prix Supporters Club being formed in 1963.
The UGPSC has over the 50 years raised just short of ?1,000,000 to help keep the Prix being held.
The Ulster Grand Prix Bike Week commences on Monday 12th August with practice and qualifying for the Dundrod 150 National Road Races and the International Ulster Grand Prix taking place on Wednesday 14th August with further qualifying on the Thursday morning.
The Topaz Dundrod 150 Road Races take place on Thursday Afternoon 15th August, followed by the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix on Saturday 17th
August.
