Ex-fireman recalls Summerland disaster

by isleofman.com 2nd August 2013
A former senior fireman says he can remember vividly the events of 40 years ago and the Summerland tragedy.

John Skinner was 22 years old when he was called out to tackle the blaze, and was among the team which spent all night at the scene of devastation.

Now a Douglas Councillor, he last year called for a more fitting memorial to the victims – something that will be unveiled at a ceremony this evening.

Mr Skinner recalled what he encountered at the site in 1973:Clip 1
