House of Manannan hosts the Manx Model Boat Club

by isleofman.com 6th August 2013

From the 10th to 18th August the House of Manannan will be hosting a display of the eye-catching and functional models by the Manx Model Boat Club in the exhibition gallery. Entry to the display is free and open 10am - 5pm daily.

The models on display include tugs, fishing vessels and navy boats and the ever popular lifeboats. Visitors might get a chance to see if they have what it takes to be a master model maker too!

Kids and big kids alike will be delighted to hear that the Manx Model Boat Club’s AV A GO boats will be on the forecourt of the House of Manannan to coincide with Peel’s Traditional Boat Weekend on 10th and 11th August. Participants are always guaranteed to have great fun having a go of steering their own boat.

Suzanne Williams, Heritage Site Manager said;
“We are very excited that the Manx Model Boat Club has agreed to show and tell us more about their models at the House of Manannan. Maritime history is a big part of the story we tell in the heritage centre and the club have models of Peel fishing boats, lifeboats and they even have a model of Odin’s Raven - perfection! This display is not part of Manx National Heritage’s formal exhibition programme but is a great use of the exhibition space before the Reg Quayle sculpture exhibition opens in October.”

Kim Holland, Press Officer of the Manx Model Boat club said;
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the Club to really wow the visitors with a range of magnificent model boats, and because we are inside we can bring them all out to show. We'll have yachts, new and old, part built models, large and small models, maybe some novelty models (ducks and chicks and a working rowing boat) and even a pair of IOM Steam Packet vessels from the National Museum Collection. We'll even be putting on some demonstrations of some of our model making ways, the electrics, rope making, sail sewing and even building card models whilst we wait for you.”

We hope people will come down to Peel to enjoy the display and AV A GO during Peel Traditional Boat Weekend.
