The Annual Albany/Chrystals Senior Open tournament has run smoothly from Saturday, due to good weather, co-operative players and a well organised referee (Ian Watson).
The Men’s singles entry was good enough to run the ratings system and have two groups with the finalists from Group 2 progressing to Group 1, whilst still having a Final to play on Finals Day (Sunday). Some of the club’s juniors have played really well against senior opposition and group 2 will see Calvin Smith(15) play Will Broadhead (15).

Prize presentation by David Watson of Chrystals will take place at 4pm on Sunday. The committee would like to see competitors/ members there to applaud the winners. I need 3 or 4 people to help provide the refreshments for the post event tea. Contact me on 861497 or e-mail albanytennispr@manx.net if you can help.
Next Tuesday the courts are booked from 10am – 1pm for the annual round of The British Heart Foundation’s(IOM) Tennis Doubles. Players are asked to report for 9.30am and tea/coffee will be available to awaken the players at such an early hour! Refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of play.
Next event will be the Albany Club Championships, sponsored by Auxesia Ltd, which, obviously is for members only. Forms are available or you can enter on line. There is a separate form for seniors and for juniors and entry is free. Hopefully we will see more support for the Ladies Doubles event as we have lots of female members but they seem to be shy of competition. Come on girls let’s see you match the numbers of men who have played this past week in the Chrystals Open.
I’d like to wish young Jay Skelcher-Maxwell “Good Luck” at Wimbledon next week. Jay is the Isle of Man representative in the Road to Wimbledon event for U12. As runner-up in the Isle of Man round of this event, Jay is taking the place of Max Walker who won the IOM event but is unable to attend. Here’s hoping Jay has a great time.
