Geordies win Charity Shield

by isleofman.com 10th August 2013
The dominant force in Manx football continued their winning ways yesterday evening.

St George's beat St Mary's 3-2 in the Eric Fletcher Charity Shield at The Bowl.

Steven Priestnal gave St Mary's the lead from the penalty spot in the first half, only for Ciaran McNulty to level for Geordies almost immediately.

Substitute Brian Crellin put Mary's ahead again in the second half, but their opponents levelled again through Sam Caine.

Then, with only a few minutes remaining Caine crossed for Calum Morrissey to score what would turn out to be the winner.

The match was a heated one at times, with a number of strong challenges going in.

Morrissey and St Mary's Neil Brogan were also involved in an off-the-ball incident, which was not spotted by match officials.
