For a second year in succession, Peel's annual lifeboat service was interrupted by a rescue operation.

Yesterday’s (Sunday) service was underway when two youths from the town got into difficulty in a blow up kayak and were blown rapidly out to sea.

The Ruby Clery lifeboat was launched to recover the 15 and 16 year-olds who had under estimated the strength of the off shore wind.

By the time the lifeboat reached them, they were almost half a mile from Peel breakwater and getting into breaking seas. They were taken on board and returned to the town damp but unharmed.

During last year’s annual RNLI service, an almost identical incident led to the rescue of a five year-old boy over a mile out to sea.
