Peel businesses support Western Neighbourhood Police Team

by isleofman.com 12th August 2013

Sponsorship provided by Shoprite and Pedal Power Cycles, at Simpsons Limited of Michael Street, Peel, has made it possible for the Western Neighbourhood Policing Team to purchase two pedal cycles, which will be used by its officers to patrol the division.

Inspector Darrill Pearson of the Western neighbourhood said:

”I would like to extend my gratitude to Shoprite and Pedal Power Cycles, who have made it possible for me to purchase two pedal cycles, which will compliment my existing fleet of vehicles in the West.”

“The cycles will increase the accessibility of my team, allowing them to engage more freely with community so they can better understand and respond to their needs, whilst affording the officers the opportunity to patrol their beats effectively.”

“My team are keen to get out there on the cycles, which will be used across the entire Neighbourhood; with officers transporting the cycles to villages and other remote areas in vans, which they will park up whilst they patrol on the cycles.”

Andrew Thomas, Chief Executive of Shoprite said:

“We are delighted to continue to invest in Peel by supporting this innovative community initiative, which will not only improve safety for residents but also build community engagement in the West.”

Stuart Hardingham, the proprietor of Pedal Power Cycles said:

I was extremely pleased to be given the opportunity to work with our Michael Street neighbours - Shoprite and to help our community Bobbies. I think cycle mounted police officers will set a great example to young people and allow them to be easily accessible to the general public. The view from a bicycle can often be quite different to that from a car and so will assist in effective policing of our community. I can’t wait to see the first police rider in Michael Street and I will be proud to say - that bike came from my shop!"
