Douglas RNLI lifeboat called out to report of a person in sea off Douglas Promenade

by isleofman.com 12th August 2013
Douglas RNLI lifeboat volunteer crew members were paged at 3.37am on Saturday morning (10th August) to a report of a person in the sea off Douglas Promenade.

The RNLI all-weather lifeboat Sir William Hillary was launched under the command of volunteer coxswain Neal Corran to carry out a search between the Peveril Steps and Tower of Refuge where the person was last reported to have been seen.

The person was successfully located and recovered to the lifeboat using its inflatable dinghy daughter boat crewed by volunteers Peter Cowin and Donald Bottomley. Having determined that the person was not in need of any further assistance from the RNLI he was landed at the Victoria Pier and given into the care of the Coastguards and Police.

The lifeboat then returned to the boathouse to be washed down, re-fuelled and made ready again for service.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with the RNLI as lifeboat crew, shore helper, or fundraiser should contact their nearest lifeboat station.
