Fire Service attend garden fire in Abbeylands

by isleofman.com 12th August 2013
At approximately 12.15hrs on Sunday afternoon (11th August) a Fire appliance from Douglas Station was dispatched by the Emergency Joint Control Room following reports of smoke issuing from trees at a property on Abbeylands.

Upon arrival the fire crew quickly identified that the smoke was coming from an unattended garden fire that had been set within the tree line of the property. The fire was quickly extinguished using a high pressure hose reel with the firefighters being in attendance for approximately 20 minutes.

Leading Firefighter Sean Murphy who was the Officer in Charge of the appliance stated that ‘the occupier attended the incident after the fire had been put out and suitable advice was given in relation to the safety aspects of leaving an unattended fire.’ He also asked that anyone setting garden fires ‘to be aware of how quickly fire can spread through trees and undergrowth especially during these dry months and to always fully extinguish the fire before leaving.’
