Peel's RNLI lifeboat service interrupted for a second year in succession

by isleofman.com 12th August 2013

For a second year in succession Peel's annual lifeboat service was interrupted by a shout to put to sea for a rescue.

Having watched two youths from Peel getting into difficulty in a blow up kayak Allen Corlett the lifeboat operations manager decided to launch "Ruby Clery" to assist the two who by now were blowing rapidly out sea. The crew under the command of coxswain John Hunter immediately left the service and launched to recover the 15 and 16 year local lads who had under estimated the strength of the off shore wind. By the time the lifeboat reached the two they were almost half a mile from Peel breakwater and getting into breaking seas. They were taken on board and returned to Peel damp but unharmed.

During last years service an almost identical incident ended up with a five year old over a mile out to sea.
