With four archers off-Island competing in Wigan on Sunday and others on holiday, there were not many shooting at Greeba this week. The rounds of the day were a 720/50m which is 72 arrows shot at 70m on a 120 cm target face for the recurve archers, and 72 arrows shot at 50m on a 60cm target face for the compounds. Tony Hartley and Rhys Moore topped the recurve division, but Tony only won by a total of 13 points and if Rhys had had a full quota of 72 arrow hits he would no doubt have taken the honours – better luck next time Rhys. Others shooting this round were junior archer Adam Wright who is consistently setting new pb’s as he improves at the longer distances, and husband and wife Rob and Karen Lott. The compound archers this week all had to follow Simon Musgrove whose score of 632 gave him first place, well ahead of Billy Lightfoot who scored 615 with one missed arrow, but even if Billy had shot and scored a 10 with this missed arrow he still would not have beaten Simon. Third place this week went to Colin Moore with a score of 604 and he was followed by Peter Mumford who was well off the pace with a score of 590. The only other archer shooting on Sunday was junior Josh Trafford, who, shooting with borrowed arrows, had something of a nightmare time on the short metric round. Hopefully when he shoots his own re-fletched arrows he will achieve a better score.
Once again all scores and PBs will be verified by the Records Officer on her return from holiday. The competition next week reverts to National rounds, meeting at Greeba as usual at 9.30am or 1.30pm.
Congratulations to Adam Wright on his A level results which successfully secured his place at John Moore’s University in Liverpool starting in September.
