Carnival comes to Douglas

by isleofman.com 27th August 2013

Live music and the tastes and colours of South America are combining to create a weekend vibe six days a week at Douglas’s hottest new bar, the Carnival Live Lounge in Strand Street.

Formerly the Rendezvous this latest offering from Heron and Brearley is not only the go-to late-night venue in Douglas but also a great daytime place in which to take a welcome break from the serious business of shopping or working and relax in surroundings that are a little bit industrial chic, a little bit mardi gras.

Expect chilli-hot colours, booth seating, a graffiti-decorated wall inspired by the street art of Valparaiso, a dance floor, stage and sophisticated sound system and live music each and every week.

A long bar dispenses flavoured vodkas and tequilas, cocktails ranging from mojitos to margaritas, and a selection of pure fruit-packed smoothies, while the menu serves up a fiesta of fajitas and is bursting with burritos and tortillas.

Heron and Brearley’s retail director Steven Taylor said: ‘Carnival Live Lounge is the latest example of how we’ve been listening to our customers, in this case, 18 to 25-year olds. We know what we’ve created with Carnival is right because at the very outset of the project we invited people from this age group to come to customer forum sessions and tell us what they wanted.  And what became clear was that they wanted somewhere that staged regular live music in a really well designed venue in the town centre. Importantly somewhere that would provide opportunities for new and emerging live bands.

‘We’ve responded with the Carnival Live Lounge which, even in the weeks leading up to its opening, was attracting some headline live music acts expressing an interest to perform there, so we’re especially delighted to be welcoming Dave Crowe and Andy Balcon  - the blues duo “Heymoonshaker” - to the stage on August 30th.

‘We’ve not only created a fantastic live music venue, though; we’ve gone the extra mile, serving great food and drink and have balanced the bar’s late-night scene with a daytime offering that will appeal to shoppers and families.

‘At Heron and Brearley we always strive towards great hospitality experiences. Carnival Live Lounge is our latest – and perhaps most colourful to date - example of that aim.’
