by isleofman.com 27th August 2013
On Sunday afternoon, 25th August, the Emergency Services Joint Control Room received reports of a combine harvester on fire in Maughold, appliances from Laxey and Ramsey were dispatched to the incident.

Upon arrival crews discovered that the combine harvester was ‘well alight’ along with approximately 200 metres of freshly cut crop in the field.  2 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a 45mm hose line to extinguish the combine harvester fire which appeared to be confined to the engine compartment.  Further teams extinguished the crop fire in the field and doused the surrounding area to prevent further fire spread.

Crews remained in attendance for approximately 1 hour to continue cooling the inner workings of the combine harvester to prevent any possible re-ignition.

The were no injuries reported.

The fire was confined to the engine compartment and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
