by isleofman.com 27th August 2013
Police in Port Erin are investigating the theft of a large quantity of antique coins from a property in Ballasalla. The theft took place between May and July this year and in the region of 60 coins are missing.

There are various types of coins missing, but the majority of them are gold half and full sovereigns, typically minted in the late 19th century and early 20th century. There is also a 1921 silver US Dollar and two silver 3d. pieces from the same time period missing. The exact value of the coins is not known at this time, but it is thought to run into several thousand pounds.

PC Adrian Brooks states “Due to the large amount of coins and their unusual nature, I am hopeful that if someone has seen the coins or perhaps been offered them to buy that they will remember them. The theft has not only caused the loser a significant financial loss, it has also left them feeling very upset. These coins are in effect heirlooms, and they were due to be passed to another member of the family, this of course will not now be possible.”

If anybody has any information about this matter they are asked to contact Port Erin Police Station on 01624-832222. or alternatively contact the anonymous Crime Stoppers Line on 0800 555 111.
