Students at King William’s College learned their GCSE results last Thursday and the results were tremendous.
The highlights were as follows:
• 46% of all exams awarded A* or A grades.
• 15% of candidates achieved straight A*/A grades in all subjects.
• 42% of candidates achieved 6 or more A*/A grades.
• 91% of all exams awarded A* - C grades.
Joss Buchanan the Vice Principal-Academic commented:
“We are very pleased with this set of results. The pupils worked extremely hard and the results are gratifying. King William’s is proud of its individual approach to learning and of course our small class sizes make a difference. With an average of 15 students per class we can stretch the strong and support everyone. Over half of these exams were IGCSEs and we believe that the trend towards this form of exam will continue. We think that the IGCSE provides a stronger platform for Sixth Form studies, particularly the International Baccalaureate”.
Martin Humphreys the Principal commented:
“This is excellent news, especially for such a large cohort. In July we achieved our second best ever IB results for the Sixth Form and now the new cohort have shown what they can do. This group will form a very strong Lower Sixth come September and will be amongst the largest group starting the Sixth Form in College history. These results are particularly pleasing bearing in mind all the recent press comment surrounding GCSE marking and grades. Of course it’s all about the students’ hard work, but it is also about individual teaching and I must thank all my teaching colleagues for their dedication”.
