Exhibition to celebrate 150th Anniversary of the IOM Constabulary

by isleofman.com 28th August 2013
The Isle of Man Constabulary are celebrating the 150th Anniversary of its formation with an exhibition of its history at Castle Rushen.

Chief Constable Gary Roberts explained;

“The 150th Anniversary of the Constabulary’s creation is a really important milestone in our history. It was only perhaps when we stepped back and started to look at the past in a little more detail, it became apparent just how many great stories and anecdotes we have to tell. In putting together this exhibition, we have come across some remarkable tales, and treasured artefacts which have perhaps pointed out some lessons from history, and the fact that despite our ever-changing, fast paced modern world, the fundamentals of policing remain the same. One particular gem is a copy of a booklet called “Isle of Man Constabulary Force Instructions”, published in 1879. We intend to publish some quotes from it over the period of the exhibition on our social media channels.”

The exhibition is open between 10am and 5pm every day between the 30th August and 13th September – the actual date of the Constabulary’s creation.
