Stars New & Old Shine at Manx Grand Prix

The Manx Grand Prix celebrated its 90th anniversary in style and the races provided some close exciting racing although for the second time in its unique history the organisers were forced to abandon running the feature Senior Manx Grand Prix due to the severe weather conditions which prevailed throughout the final race day.

Four first time winners were feited at the conclusion of their races and at the prestigious prize presentation.

Newcomers race winners, Christopher Dixon, Callum Collister and Ben Rea along with Lightweight Manx Grand Prix victor Alistair Haworth all experienced the delights ridng in the chair to the stage at the magnificient Villa Marina.

Irishman Michael Sweeney emulated his 2010 Junior MGP victory with a dramatic last lap victory after race leader James Cowton ran out of fuel on the last mile before the chequered flag. Michael Russell finished second with Andy Lawson taking the final podium spot.

First and second positions were reversed in the SuperTwin Manx Grand Prix with 2009 Senior Manx Grand Prix winner Michael Russell taking victory by less than a second from Sweeney as Rob Hodson took third.

Michael Sweeney’s two podium positions move him up the Duke Rankings four places to seventh.

Newcomer Connor Behan took second in the A race climbs one to 11th, whilst Lightweight winner moves up 11 places to 27th and heads the Newcomer’s Rankings.

Newcomers B winner Callum Collister moves from 58th to 36th up some 22 positions whilst SuperTwins winner Michael Russell enters the rankings in 58th spot.
