An Isle of Man resident has been diagnosed with Cruetzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD). A few residents have become aware of this and have raised some concerns.
This patient had a form of CJD referred to as Sporadic CJD (sCJD). sCJD is an extremely rare condition which occurs in approximately 1 in a million people. sCJD is not related to beef, cattle or any animals or to occupation, travel or any other leisure activities.
Advice to the public:
1. The form of CJD, sCJD, is non-infectious and there is no risk of transmission of the disease.
2. Specifically sCJD is not related to beef or cattle and there is no need to be concerned about eating beef as part of a healthy diet.
