A local man is taking up his running shoes and entering the Dublin Marathon in support of a Manx homelessness charity.
Mark McCune, who has been a keen runner all his life but has never run a marathon before, will be going to Ireland in the autumn to support Graih. He first got involved with the charity some years ago as a volunteer and now wants to use his skills to raise awareness and support for the homeless. Posters and collection tins have been kindly hosted by numerous businesses, schools and GP surgeries throughout Douglas and Onchan.
All the funds raised from sponsoring this event will go towards Graih, a local charity seeking to serve those who are homeless and in insecure accommodation on the island. Graih run a daily drop-in and emergency accommodation from their base at The Alpha Centre in central Douglas, providing food, shelter and a safe space for people who are often on the margins of society. Their work of building relationships and seeking transformation expands into community visits, links with statutory agencies and days on their allotment. Graih receives no statutory funding and is entirely supported by charitable donations.
Mark runs in the Dublin Marathon on the 28th October and hopes to raise plenty of support and awareness before then. To support Mark please contact him on 225007. Further information about Graih and ways to support the charity can be found at www.graih.org.im or by contacting Michael Manning on 324767 or michael@graih.org.im.
