Serious challenges facing the Island's staple food industries - bread, milk and meat - are in the spotlight today as Manx Radio hosts a major debate on food security and sustainability in the Island.
Ramsey Bakery head Jim Duncan's open letter last week, calling for politicians, retailers and consumers to work together to ensure Manx-made bread survives against competition from UK imports, sparked a major public debate on the airwaves and online.
News and current affairs flagship programme Mandate brought together key players in local food and drink production, food retailers, members of the public and representatives from the farming industry and government.
On the panel, the CEOs of Ramsey Bakery, Isle of Man Creamery, and Isle of Man Meats agreed on a simple, central message: Manx consumers should 'use it or risk losing it' - purchase locally-produced food or risk the loss of on-Island production forever.
