Sean Quaye proved to be captain fantastic again as the reigning champions St George’s edged ahead in the early standings in the Canada Life Premier League.

He scored both goals as the Geordies moved a point clear at the summit with a 2-0 success over battling Ramsey at Ballacloan.

They were able to capitalise after the big game of the day between St John’s and Laxey ended all square - Mark Wolfenden’s 31st minute opener – against his old club – being cancelled out by Craig Dolman’s equaliser for the home side two minutes later.

Peel are up to second after a first half blitz at Ramsey Youth Centre.

Andy Quirk opened the scoring inside the first few minutes and after that the westerners never looked back.

Aaron Costain and Daniel Bell from the penalty spot added to the tally before the break and Lee Gale sealed the win in the second half.

They are joined on 12 points by Rushen who were 4-2 winners over Corinthians at Croit Lowey.

Harry Best, a Furo Davies penalty, Josh Kelly and Tom Doherty grabbed the goals.

Corinthians’ reply came courtesy of Gary Thomas and Lewis Thornton.

After a tough start to the season, St Mary’s underlined their ability with a 4-0 victory over Union Mills at the Bowl, thanks to an Andy Glover double and one apiece from the Priestnal duo, Marc and Stephen.

Old Boys sealed their first victory of the season, 4-1 at newly promoted Michael – Chris Coxon, Craig Stewart and David Quirk (two) the marksmen.

All this after Nicky Sloane had put Michael ahead.
