The popularity of the annual Dean Wood ladies golf tournament was emphasised when a significant increase in competitors was recorded for this year’s event, which concluded at Peel Golf Club.
A total of 43 players, more than for many years, played three rounds of golf at Ramsey, Rowany and Peel to bid for the generous prizes once again donated by estate agency Dean Wood who have been long term sponsors of this popular annual tournament.
Dean Wood Management director David McNeil once again represented the sponsors and handed over prizes to all the winners in an event which, uniquely, restricts each competitor to just one prize, so that all players have a chance to claim a prize.
He said, “Dean Wood is delighted to have had a long association as sponsors of this event, and it’s a testament to its ongoing popularity that this year has seen a significant increase in entries.”
He also paid tribute to the “outstanding work” of the event secretary, Pat Kelly, who has been running the event for four years and is now standing down to hand over the position of secretary to Mary Manuja.
The overall winner of the tournament was the outstanding golfer after the three rounds, Jane Gaines, with an impressive 107 pts, followed by Dee Lewis on 97 pts and Sandy Gibson third with 95 pts.
