Two community spirited young people in the Isle of Man have been selected for official duties as the Lieutenant Governor’s Cadets.
Air cadet Jeffrey Williams and St John Ambulance volunteer Louise Coase will serve for one year, supporting His Excellency Adam Wood at a number of receptions and events.
The investiture of the Lieutenant Governor’s Cadets took place today (Friday 13 September) during a ceremony at Government House.
His Excellency said: ‘Jeffrey and Louise already play active roles in the local community and I look forward to working with them in the year ahead. The appointments will provide an opportunity for them both to meet the broad range of guests who attend functions at Government House. I’m sure Jeffrey and Louise will be a credit to their organisations and to the Isle of Man.’
His Excellency appoints two cadets each year – one from the St John Ambulance and one from the cadet forces in the Island. They are nominated by their organisations and then personally selected by the Governor following an interview process.
Jeffrey is a Cadet Flight Sergeant with the 440 (1st Manx) Squadron Air Training Corps and has worked extensively with ex-service organisations in the Island.
He takes an active role in all aspects of the squadron’s training programme and has attended several parades and functions as part of its standard bearing team.
As the Governor’s military cadet, Jeffrey – who is currently studying to complete the highest ATC cadet qualification of Instructor Cadet – will support His Excellency at Remembrance Day Services and the Tynwald Day ceremony.
Louise first enrolled into the St John Cadets in 2006 and has attained her level two first aid qualification.
She was promoted to the rank of Cadet Sergeant in 2011 and in 2012 was selected as Deputy Cadet of the Year.
As well as helping to instruct the younger cadets, Louise is a member of the St John Youth Assembly and has devoted many hours of duty to local events including the TT Races and Festival of Motorcycling.
