Mayor visits Glen Darragh

by isleofman.com 23rd September 2013

The Mayor and Mayoress of Douglas, Councillor Carol Malarkey and Councillor Sara Hackman have visited Glen Darragh at the invitation of the owners John and Angela Dixon.

The mayoral party also took the occasion to view the glen lighting, a project led by the Laxey Mines Research Group’s Pete Geddes.

The mayoral party enjoyed a tour of the glen and the refurbished former corn mill dating from the 1700s and its waterwheel, the latter restored by volunteers from the group.

Mr Dixon said: ‘It was a pleasure to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress and Laxey Mines Research Group members. The group have done a wonderful job restoring the waterwheel to working order, which lends authenticity to the mill building, while the glen, with its illuminations, is a truly magical place. The site is part of the Manx nation’s industrial heritage and I am proud to be its custodian.’
