Barclays employees go coast-to-coast for charity

More than ?3,200 has been handed to The Children’s Centre following a sponsored walk across the Isle of Man by employees of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management.

A team of 35 employees and their families walked more than 11 miles from the east coast to the west coast in support of The Children’s Centre, one of Barclays’ Charities of the Year for 2013.

The funds raised during the coast-to-coast walk were matched pound-for-pound by Barclays.

Walk organiser Paul Wiseman, a member of the Credit Operations Control Team at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management in the Isle of Man, said: “We met at a windswept Bottleneck Car Park in Douglas and set off at 10am, with the aim of reaching the Crosby Pub by midday. The final stragglers made it in good time, arriving at around 11.45am for a fantastic buffet lunch to aid our onward journey.”

“The next leg saw us venture along the railway line from the Crosby to the tea rooms in St John’s, where light refreshments were consumed to see us through the final leg of our journey to the coast in Peel.”

“Soon after our arrival at our destination, the Creek Inn in Peel, the heavens opened. Thankfully, we had all made it by then, so no one was unduly wet.”

Paul added: “It was an excellent day with great weather and, most importantly, we raised a great amount for Charity of The Year, the Isle of Man Children’s Centre, which was matched pound-for-pound to make a grand total of more than ?3,200, so thanks to everyone that took part.”

Plans are already under way to repeat the feat in 2014, with details to be announced in the New Year.
