The 2013 Lloyds Bank Community Fund is helping local people to have a positive impact at the heart of their communities by giving grants to four good causes in each community. Over 1,300 community groups have been shortlisted and 400,000 local people are set to benefit across England and Wales.
The Community Fund has the potential to reach every family and community in the UK, and through Lloyds Bank’s communities and responsible business programmes it can help Britain prosper.
Voting is now open to the public online, by SMS text message and by visiting a local Lloyds Bank branch. The number of votes cast in each community will decide how the Community Fund awards will be allocated.
Every one of the four community groups shortlisted in the Isle of Man is set to receive an award. In each community, the two good causes with the most votes will each receive ?3,000, with the other two receiving awards of ?300 each.
Lucy Felton, Business Development Manager for Lloyds Bank, Isle of Man, said: “We are delighted that these worthy community groups have been shortlisted for the 2013 Community Fund. The award would mean a great deal to the each of the organisations and will enable them to continue the fantastic work they do in the local community.”
Two of last year’s winners were Crossroads Care and The Children’s Centre. Crossroads Care support young carers and also run a scheme to help young adults with learning difficulties to gain work placements. Annabel Chambers, PR and Fundraising Events Coordinator for the charity, praised the scheme: “The money enabled us to reach more people than we could before. One of the work placements we help offer is the ironing service and we were able to purchase a new steam machine. It helped a lot with their work, and it gives them a real boost that the work they do is recognised by others.”
John Knight, Chief Executive, The Children’s Centre also commented: “The initiative we were seeking support for is a leadership programme for aspirant young leaders in communities throughout the Island. The Lloyds Community Fund Award simply made this programme possible and directly benefitted all those that then came on the course. Our hope is that in turn their new found leadership skills will benefit others in their community and have a ripple effect over time”.
