St George's and St Mary's win big matches

by isleofman.com 28th September 2013

It’s as you were at the top of the Canada Life Premier League.

St John’s United remain the early leaders after goals from Callum Taggart, Steve Glover (two) and Kasmir Stoev sealed a 4-0 win at bottom club Castletown.

However, reigning champions St George’s are still only a point off the pace with a game in hand after winning the match of the day.

Two goals inside the first 12 minutes set them on their way to a 3-1 victory over Peel.

Sam Caine netted twice and Ciaran McNulty (penalty) grabbed the goals with substitute Neil Birchenough replying for the westerners.

St Mary’s won the other big game with a fine 3-2 victory at Rushen.

That ensured they leapfrogged the southerners.

Andy Glover, Brian Crellin and Steven Priestnal were on target for Sam Kenny’s side.

Rushen hit back through Aaron Hawley and Harry Best but it wasn’t enough.

Laxey stayed in the title hunt – actually moving up into second place on goal difference - after a 4-0 home win over newly promoted Ramsey Youth Centre.

Mark Wolfenden was the hat-trick hero with John Callow grabbing the other.

Ramsey won well at Corinthians, securing a 3-1 victory which leaves the home side just outside the relegation table, thanks to Matthew Skillicorn, Michael Simpson and an own goal.

Danny Pennington was the home side’s marksmen.

It was also a big win for Union Mills who also scored twice inside the first 12 minutes with a 3-0 success over Michael – Ian Drake, Matthew Caine and Joey Morling the scorers.
