With effect from the 1 October 2013 the audiology services operating from Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital on a Monday and Thie Rosien in Port Erin on a Tuesday will be temporarily reduced due to staffing difficulties. Hear2Help volunteers will continue to be available on a drop-in basis on Monday and Tuesday mornings respectively, but unfortunately an Audiologist will not be available.
Hear2Help volunteers are able to assist with a variety of minor issues relating to hearing aids, such as re-tubing and battery replacements. Those requiring more specialist assistance from an Audiologist will need to attend the Audiology Service at Noble’s Hospital in General Outpatients Suite C. The Audiology Service can be contacted on Tel: 650407.
Head of Audiology and Principal Audiologist Stephen Griffiths said: “I’d like to apologise to patients for any inconvenience this causes. Ideally we would like to keep these services running, but staffing difficulties means that for the short term this won’t be possible. I can however assure patients that this move is only temporary and that we expect to be able to resume our regular audiology service in both Ramsey and Port Erin in May next year. Although an Audiologist won’t be available, patients can continue to receive support from our much valued volunteers who have been specifically trained to run our Hear2Help Service, which is proving to be popular with service users. In addition, should patients who use our services at RDCH and Thie Rosien need to see an Audiologist, they can do so at Noble’s Hospital.”
