Skelly to explain campaign to oust minister

by isleofman.com 4th October 2013

The politician attempting to unseat Health Minister David Anderson is due to explain his motives in detail today (4 October).
Rushen MHK Laurence Skelly will table a motion of no confidence in Mr Anderson at Tynwald this month.
Today he's expected to outline to journalists the support he's gathered so far for the move, which has sprung from growing concern over safety procedures at Noble's Hospital.
Mr Skelly is one of nine MHKs who signed a letter in July calling on the chief minister to replace Mr Anderson, to restore confidence in the health department's leadership.
A week earlier, Lib Van MHK Kate Beecroft failed in her attempt to force Mr Anderson out when she lacked sufficient support for a no confidence vote.
Bosses at Noble's have since unveiled initiatives designed to improve patient safety; an external review is underway into the Island's health service and earlier this week, Mr Anderson briefed Tywnald members on progress.
Mr Skelly needs to win a majority in both the Keys and Legislative Council for his motion to carry.
It's unclear yet if over the next 10 days, he can find 17 other members wiling to declare they've lost confidence in the head of the Island's health service.
