If you’re currently driving alone on your commute to work, you could halve your fuel and parking costs just by sharing with one other person.
Finding a JourneyMatch for a short 10 mile commute could save you nearly ?600 a year in fuel costs alone.
Liftshare Week runs UK wide from the 7th to the 11th October and as part of this, the Department of Environment Food and Agriculture will be promoting ‘JourneyMatch’ which is available to residents through www.journeymatch.im.
This free-to-use website enables you to find others on the Island who are ‘going your way’, so you can try sharing your commute. You don’t even need your own car. Lots of members would be happy to give you a lift in return for a contribution to the costs and a bit of friendly company. A quick search facility is available on the JourneyMatch Facebook page which enables users to quickly see if others are making the same journey before signing up.
Minister Gawne said “JourneyMatch provides commuters with a great opportunity to save money and make their journeys more sociable”.
The Department is offering the chance to win a fuel voucher worth ?75 to those who register a shared journey and submit a photo of themselves with their ‘JourneyMatch’ and vehicle to the Facebook page. Terms and conditions will appear on the Facebook page soon.
