MTTV, the Island’s first online HD video news service, has now been watched more than a million times based on Google Analytics statistics. Over 1,250 individual reports have been published since Manx Telecom launched the service on February 1, 2012, covering every aspect of Island life from breaking news, sport, politics, business and finance through to entertainment, charity events and the environment.
Available through the manx.net and isleofman.com websites, MTTV viewers are also able to follow real time daily updates via an RSS feed and through Manx Telecom’s Facebook and Twitter pages, alerting them the moment a new report is published. Manx Telecom CEO Mike Dee believes the ability to watch MTTV through any internet enabled device has been key to its success. He commented:
“We’re delighted to have achieved this significant milestone and to see such a wide range of local content being regularly watched by people of all ages on their PC, tablets and mobile handsets on a daily basis. Combined with an average view time of over two and a half minutes, it’s a clear indicator that people want to get up to date local news content as it happens, wherever and whenever they want it. That’s a perfect fit for us as a communications business and a great opportunity for advertisers to reach the rapidly growing ‘digital’ local audience, not only through MTTV, but also our manx.net and isleofman.com websites and email users, which together attract over 45 million page views a year and make a significant commercial contribution to the business”
The Manx Telecom CEO congratulated former BBC and Granada journalist Paul Moulton for his hard work as MTTV’s presenter and roving reporter. Paul wastes no time in uploading his video reports so that MTTV viewers can see the latest breaking news stories. The most watched MTTV video, with 25,082 views is the Helicopter Snow report from March this year.
In addition to the news about MTTV’s one million views milestone, Manx Telecom has also recently improved the user experience by updating the video player software to be compatible with as many devices, operating systems, and web browsers as possible. Further enhancements to the service are being considered for 2014 – these include additional presenters, a mobile app, and the opportunity for members of the public to submit their own video reports on issues affecting their communities.
