Airline Email Scam

by isleofman.com 10th October 2013
A new potential scam has been brought to the attention of the Office.  It involves individuals being advised in an unsolicited email message that their email address has been selected as one of the six lucky winners of four million pounds from a well-known airline.

A significant amount of personal data is requested so that the ridiculously extravagant, but almost certainly bogus, payout can be made.

Although this potential scam is not particularly sophisticated, there is always the possibility that individuals may be tempted to respond.

First and foremost, remember: IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS.  Don't be afraid to delete such contacts.

Consumers are advised to consider discussing any such contact or correspondence with friends or relatives or to seek advice from the Office of Fair Trading on 686500.
