The Department of Infrastructure advises that major road and footway maintenance works will commence on Station Road and Castletown Road, Port Erin on Monday 4th November 2013.
The work includes the replacement of kerbs throughout, the reconstruction of some sections of road and the re-surfacing of other sections of road from Bridson Street to and including the Four Roads Roundabout. The works will continue in phases until mid April 2014.
The works are required to replace the worn out and very uneven and cracked road and footways in the area.
The first phase of the work includes the reconstruction of Station Road between Bridson Street and the telephone exchange just to the east of Droghadfayle Road. The work will be carried out in two sections during which time a westbound (seaward) one way system will be introduced. The first section will entail reconstructing the eastbound lane and it is anticipated that these works will last for approximately 7 weeks. Vehicle access to Droghadfayle Road will be maintained at all times, although large vehicles may experience difficulty turning west as the works progress so we would recommend deferring such journeys or taking extra care. Pedestrian access will be maintained along Station Road, on the south side of the road. The second section of the works will continue after Christmas, still using a westbound one way system, with the reconstruction of the other side of the road ie the westbound lane. This work will last approximately 8 weeks.
The next phase, lasting approximately 8 weeks will be undertaken between Milner Park and the telephone exchange. The road here will be resurfaced, working under temporary traffic lights and maintaining one lane to traffic. The carriageway and footway between Milner Park and the Four Roads roundabout will also be reconstructed and the Department will issue further information about these works once a firm date for them has been agreed.
Mr Leonard Singer MHK, Member with responsibility for Highways Division has commented: ‘This road is the gateway to Port Erin and provides a link to Port St Mary. This highway investment will provide for a much improved appearance and will significantly enhance the area, as well as providing much needed improvements to the ride quality of the route. I welcome the investment.’
Local shops and businesses remain open for the duration of the works.
The Department would like to thank motorists and pedestrians in advance for their patience and co-operation. For further information or queries regarding these works, please phone 850000.
