Dining Car open day this Saturday

by isleofman.com 23rd October 2013
The newly restored Dining Car will be launched publicly this Saturday (26th October) with everyone welcome to view the train from midday to 3pm at Douglas steam railway station.

The Dining Car comprises a kitchen, bar car and two saloon carriages that have been refurbished to a high standard to enable a number of fine dining experiences to be staged on board the steam railway.

Isle of Man Railways are now promoting special Dining Car trains in conjunction with The Tickethall restaurant. Dining Car services include a number of Manxman Sunday lunches and Christmas party specials. There are also Hop-tu-naa spooky lunches and teas running Monday to Friday through half term week (28 October to 1 November).

The public launch will enable anyone interested to tour the Dining Car and enjoy a cafe service on board this Saturday only. Bookings for Dining Car services can be made with the booking clerk at Douglas Station or via email to steamdining@gov.im.

Graham Cregeen MHK, Minister for the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure, which operates the railways, said: ‘We have successfully promoted Pie in the Sky and Sunset Dinners at Snaefell Summit for a few years now. They are highly anticipated events that frequently sell out, so we know there is demand for themed dining on the railways.  It is hugely attractive for public, corporates and visitors.'

The public open day will follow the official opening of the Dining Car by President of Tynwald The Hon Clare Christian.

Bookings can be made to the booking clerk tel: 01624 697457.
