Ramsey stun St John's

by isleofman.com 26th October 2013

Ramsey caused a major shock as reigning champions St George’s took up a familiar position in the Canada Life Premier League.

The northerners stunned previous leaders St John’s with a superb 5-1 win at Mullen-e-Cloie.

And the Geordies took advantage to return to the summit in a 13 goal contest at Union Mills.

Ramsey produced the result of the day, racing into an unassailable 3-0 half-time lead as they turned the form book on its head.

Chris Duggan (two), Kris Halsall, Martin Torr and Jordan Kelly condemned St John’s to a miserable afternoon.

Their only bright spot came from Steve Glover.

There was an incredible scoreline at Garey Mooar where St George’s won 9-4 at battling Union Mills.

The star of the show was Ciaran McNulty who hit five with James McStay, Frank Jones, Connor Doyle and an own goal responsible for the others.

Mills showed some resilience with goals from Matty Cain (two), Joe Morling and Chris Kelly.

Rushen moved up to second with a 6-0 home success over newly promoted Ramsey Youth Centre – Mike Williams (two), Josh Kelly (two), Dale Corrin and an own goal secured the victory for Neil Curphey’s side.

Basement battlers Castletown gave Peel a scare before the westerners emerged 6-2 winners down south.

The match was tied at 1-1 and 2-2 before Rick Holden’s side took control, courtesy of goals from Daniel Bell (two), Lee Gale (two), Alec Holden and Ryan Holdaway.

Mike Edge and Billy Jean Masina netted for Town.

A Nathan Cooil double and one from skipper Dominic McGreevy fired St Mary’s to a 3-0 home win over a spirited Michael side, while a Gary Quirk goal early in the second half capped a week to remember.

In the week he became a father, that was the only goal of the game as Old Boys won at Corinthians.
