A treat for photographers and transport enthusiasts is planned for Saturday 2 November.
The Winter Photography Event on the Manx Electric Railway has been organised by enthusiasts for enthusiasts following the success of the 2012 event.
Volunteer stewards from ManxElectricRailway.co.uk have planned a full day's programme incorporating rides and photo opportunities on the oldest trams in service, Cars 1 and 2, which are celebrating 120 years in operation this year. There is also a tour of Laxey car shed in the afternoon.
Volunteer organiser David Martin explained: ‘Building on last year’s popular event, we are incorporating a celebration of the rich 120 year history of the Manx Electric Railway alongside events and photographic opportunities that are unlikely to be repeated.
‘The use of original 1893-built Cars 1 and 2 spans the whole of the line’s history, with the day’s events commemorating the place in history that these two Victorian survivors maintain. We are also taking the opportunity to revive a third tram, Car No.3, from the original 1893 fleet. However as this vehicle was scrapped in 1930 following a fire at Laxey, you'll have to wait and see how we do this!
‘Additionally, we will cover the modern history of the MER by staging photographic opportunities along the whole of the line from Douglas to Ramsey, as well as rare glimpses inside the rolling stock sheds at Laxey and what will be the final use of the historic 'Tower Wagons' that have been used for maintaining the railway for over a century.’
Tickets for the Winter Photography event can be purchased online and from the Welcome Centre, Douglas, at ?10.20 per person including booking fee: http://bitly.com/GTAnv8.
