Ramsey Commissioners to provide Civil Registration Service

by isleofman.com 28th October 2013
With effect from Wednesday 30th October 2013, Ramsey Town Commissioners will be providing a civil registration service at the Town Hall for the registration of births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships.

The Commissioners will also be extending the current one day a week service provided by the General Registry, enabling registrations to be undertaken five days a week.  Arrangements can be made for marriage and civil partnership ceremonies outside of these hours.

Treasury Minister Eddie Teare said: “I am delighted to see Ramsey keep a civil registration service and I would like to commend the Commissioners for being proactive in safeguarding local services.  This is an excellent example of how local authorities can provide services which are not cost effective for central Government to operate.”

Ramsey Town Commissioners’ lead member for finance and general purposes Richard Radcliffe commented: “I am delighted that we have been able to retain the civil registration service in Ramsey as we see this as an important function for the community of Ramsey and surrounding areas.  It is important that we avoid important Government functions being centralised in Douglas when they could be delivered locally.”

Following an announcement in July that the civil registration service would be centralised in Douglas as part of an on-going programme of modernisation and that there would be a phased closure of district offices, Ramsey Town Commissioners contacted Minister Teare and offered to provide a full registration service in the town.

Castletown and Peel Commissioners have also agreed to offer a civil registration service and will be taking responsibility for registrations from January and April 2014 respectively.   Castletown Commissioners will provide a service for registration of births and deaths.  It is understood Manx National Heritage is considering making an application for Castle Rushen to be an Approved Place for marriages and civil partnership ceremonies.

Ramsey Town Commissioners have retained the Ramsey Registry phone number 817762 and can be contacted on this number or the Commissioners General number 810100.

Opening times for Registry Services are:
Monday to Friday 9:30am until 3:30pm
