Leading fiduciary and fund services group, Abacus, have chosen the Isle of Man Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (‘MS Society IOM’) to be the recipient charity of their quarterly fundraising.
The group based in the Isle of Man have donated ?1,000 to the MS Society IOM, a charity which provides emotional support, guidance and care to those suffering with Multiple Sclerosis (‘MS’) and also to the healthcare professionals, carers and families of those suffering with the neurological condition.
MS is a complex condition of the central nervous system. Around 100,000 people in the UK have MS, which is normally diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40; affecting roughly three times as many women as men.
Derek Patience, Chairman of the MS Society IOM said: “On behalf of the MS Society IOM, I would like to express our thanks to everyone at Abacus for their kind donation and for choosing the MS Society IOM as their quarter charity. The money will be of great assistance and will benefit a number of people.
“When MS has been diagnosed, it is a condition that stays with the patient for life however, treatment and specialists can help sufferers manage the condition and its symptoms better. We offer a range of services and support to those affected by MS in one way or another. These include: the provision of treatments and services; financial help for those affected by MS; information; local, phone and email support; resources and funding for professionals, and undertaking medical research; and fundraising initiatives. Through these services we are able to continue our fight in trying to beat MS whilst making those living with the condition more comfortable and assisting them in leading as normal a life as possible.”

The donation from Abacus was raised through their Staff Charity Salary Deduction Scheme, which offers staff the opportunity to donate money from their salaries each month into the Scheme’s fundraising pot. The total of staff salary donations are matched by the company every quarter and then donated to a chosen charity. Staff at Abacus also held a raffle at their recent End of Summer BBQ, all the proceeds from which were added to the pot to give their total donation for MS Society IOM.
