by isleofman.com 31st October 2013
At 8pm yesterday evening, Wednesday 30th October 2013, fire crews from Laxey Fire Station responded to a report of a carbon monoxide detector operating in a domestic property.

Crews carried out further investigation and found that the smoke detectors in the house next door were also operating due to a fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house and located the fire which was in the utility room; they extinguished the fire using a high pressure hose reel.

The origin of the fire was established as being an electrical fault with the tumble dryer, the utility room was severely damaged by fire and the rest of the house was damaged by the smoke from the fire.

Fire Safety Message - Carbon monoxide detectors are just as important as smoke detectors, they should be fitted in any house that use gas, oil, or open fires in the home, they save lives and help to protect properties.
