3 UK Field Archery Records Claimed

by isleofman.com 4th November 2013

Isle of Man Archery club members Lesley Sleight and Rodger Sleight competed last weekend in the GNAS Field Archery UK English Championships held in Yorkshire.

Lesley Sleight won the Ladies American Flatbow Class and claimed 3 UK National Records. On the Saturday she broke the FITA Unmarked distance round and on the Sunday the FITA marked distance round. This also meant claiming the FITA combined record.

Rodger Sleight took 3rd place in the Mens Longbow Class.

In Archery UK field archery each archer shoots 3 arrows at 24 targets with the first day unmarked distances and the second day marked distances. Distances range from 5 to 60 metres. Targets range in size from 20cm diameter bunny shot up to 80 cm diameter at the longer distances.  Field archery can require the archer to shoot uphill and downhill, across slopes and varying terrain and also through different light conditions and wind conditions.  The course was set in a mature plantation and well placed targets led to some challenging shots.  Weather on the first day was showery and on the second day wet and windy.
