Cake bakes, karaoke and a host of other fundraising activities by Scottish Widows have raised ?5000 for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Noble’s Hospital.
The sum was boosted by matched funding from Lloyds, the parent company to Scottish Widows.
Juan Clarke, managing director of Scottish Widows, said: ‘Colleagues came up with some great ideas for a whole range of imaginative fundraising initiatives for this worthy cause. I’m so pleased that we have been able to support SCBU for a second time in the past few years. It is a cause that has touched a number of my colleagues at Scottish Widows, including myself, who have had babies cared for in the unit. It’s a great facility that we have in the Isle of Man and the support that it gives not only to the vulnerable newborn babies themselves but also to the often distressed parents is something that the Island should be proud of. The equipment that is required is expensive and they rely on charitable donations to ensure that they are continually at the forefront of neonatal care. It’s great that we have been able to help them in this way and my thanks go out to all my colleagues at Scottish Widows for their fundraising efforts.’
Neonatal services’ lead nurse Paul McCann said: ‘We are enormously grateful to Scottish Widows for this generous donation. The money will go towards funding the specialist equipment needed to promote the best life chances for premature and seriously ill newborns in our care.’
