Douglas horse tram driver Robert Maddrell has retired after 33 years with the tramways service.

To mark the occasion the Mayor of Douglas Councillor Carol Malarkey hosted a reception for Mr Maddrell and a number of his colleagues.

On behalf of Douglas Borough Council the Mayor congratulated Mr Maddrell on his loyal service and for being ‘part of a dedicated team working to promote the Island’s world famous vintage transport system which contributed to attracting visitors to the Isle of Man.’

The Mayor also took the opportunity to present Mr Maddrell with two framed photographs of him in action as a tram driver, together with a tramways photo album.
