Solway Harvester demolition to start next week

by isleofman.com 8th November 2013

As previously announced, the final chapter in the Solway Harvester tragedy is about to commence.   On Monday 11th November, work to demolish the vessel will commence adjacent to the King Edward Pier in Douglas and will be completed by Christmas.

Links between the Island and the Scottish area around Kirkcudbright  will remain in place forever because of the humanitarian actions of the Isle of Man Government in 2000.  Advocates acting for the families will be kept informed of these final steps.

Laxey Towing Company has been awarded the contract after tenders were received from five companies, one of which was from an off Island company. The Department will seek to ensure that the demolition is carried out swiftly and sensitively.
