‘LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP’ WARNS PROSPECT GENERAL SECRETARY

Mike Clancy, the newly appointed General Secretary of Prospect is due to visit the island on Thursday, 14 November 2013, to promote his union’s response to the Isle of Man Government’s Scope of Government review and meet members of his union.

He will also be promoting the brochure that Prospect have produced on the subject of Scope, entitled ‘Look Before You Leap’, and which has just been released to Prospect members and politicians.

Clancy is due to meet members at their Annual General Meeting during his visit, which will be held at 5.30pm on 14 November 2013 at the Manx Legion Club.  Apart from Scope, he is expected to address a range of member issues including pay, redundancy and employment legislation issues.  Prospect has a membership of around 1800 members on the island – mainly concentrated in the public sector but also including growing membership sections in the private sector.

Clancy has had overall responsibility for the island since 2004, and is well versed in island specific issues.  His latest visit is a follow up to his recent visit in January and reflects the interest and commitment Prospect have to the Isle of Man.

Speaking of his visit, Clancy said:

“Prospect members are facing unprecedented changes across the public and private sectors in the UK and the Isle of Man. Our aim is to ensure change is based on evidence, not short-term political calculation.

Our members are known for their expertise and we are making sure their voices are heard. I am here again to talk with representatives and members as I know the Isle of Man has its own culture and challenges, which can only be understood by direct engagement.”
